(SD)-'Pepper Spray' Mom Gets Suspended Prison Sentence
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - A Rapid City woman who used pepper spray on her 11-year-old son while arguing with him has been sentenced to 4 years in prison, but the judge also suspended the prison time.
Instead, 33-year-old Ashley Ellis was given 7 days in the county jail and 18 months probation. She won't spend any time in prison if she follows terms of her probation.
Ellis had pleaded guilty to attempted child abuse for the April 2018 incident in which she pepper sprayed her son as they argued in the parking lot of the Club for Boys. The boy was taken to a hospital for treatment.
