(Neb)-Suspect Kills Himself After Daylong Standoff In Norfolk
NORFOLK, Neb. (AP) - A day-long police standoff at a house in Norfolk ended in the early morning hours today when officers entered the home and found the suspect dead.
Norfolk police say 47-year old Cory Dittman died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No injuries to police have been reported.
The standoff began yesterday morning when officers responded after Dittman wounded 63-year-old Leone Bussey. Bussey survived, but remains hospitalized after undergoing surgery.
Negotiators were unsuccessful in multiple attempts over several hours to reach Dittman on either a cellphone and landline.
At one point, shots were heard from inside the house, and officers fired tear gas into the house in an effort to make Dittman surrender. State prison records say Dittman had served time for arson and other crimes.
