(Neb)-Kids Day Today For "Paint The Town" Listen
CHADRON - Paint the Town, the new downtown beautification project of murals along the alley in the 200 block between Main Street and Chadron Avenue began yesterday with the first day of painting on the first mural, which is on the back wall of Bloom.
Chadron Chamber of Commerce Director and Paint the Town steering committee member Gabby Michna says the mural, designed by local artists in conjunction with store owner Corrie Brennan. reflects both Bloom and the region.
About a dozen artists and adult volunteers completed the outline of the various parts of the mural as well as about half of the painting, but Michna says the painting today - which runs in drop-in fashion from 9:30-3:30 - is being turned over to the children.
Michna asks that any parent or guardian bringing any child 9 or younger to paint to stay and help chaperone, reminding them that the kids can come and paint for however long they like during the 6-hour period.
Michna expects the mural to be completed tomorrow when another 9:30-3:30 session planned.
Paint The Town will take next weekend off, then resume on the 21-23rd with a mural on the west wall of the Service Barber Shop, which Michna expects to be finished in time for Fur Trade Days.
She hopes the two murals will encourage other owners to offer their walls for painting and other artists to submit plans for future projects.
