(SD)-210 Months For Hot Springs Meth Dealer
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - A Hot Springs man has been sentenced to 17-1/2 years in prison for conspiring to distribute methamphetamine. 51-year-old Laurens Maas will also spend 5 years on supervised release and forfeit 21 guns.
Maas was arrested following a search warrant on his home in October 2017 that resulted in the seizure of the guns, ammunition, and more than 6 pounds of meth.
He was indicted by a federal grand jury a month later on charges of possession and conspiracy to distribute meth and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. He took a plea deal and pled guilty to the conspiracy charge with prosecutors dropping the other 2 counts.
Investigators say Maas got meth from a California supplier and helped distribute it in the Black Hills and in North Dakota. Additional co-conspirators are currently awaiting either trials or sentencing in Rapid City.
