(SD)-OST And State Extend Fuel Tax Agreement
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -The Oglala Sioux Tribe and the state of South Dakota have ok'ed a 5-year extension of their fuel tax excise agreement.
Under the arrangement, the state collects all fuel taxes on behalf of the tribes and remits back to the tribe the excise tax paid by tribal members on gas purchased within the borders of the Pine Ridge Reservation.
The agreement states that "It is in the public interest that the Tribe and the State seek to develop a fair and workable administration of certain tribal taxes and state taxes (and) have engaged in good faith negotiations in a spirit of cooperation and have voluntarily reached this agreement."
Oglala Sioux Tribe President Julian Bear Runner signed for the tribe with Governor Kristi Noem, State Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg, and the SD Dept of Revenue
