(Neb)-Cryptocurrency Pioneer The Winning Bidder For Lunch With Buffett

By: John Axtell Posted at: 06/03/2019 11:54 PM
It turns out it was a cryptocurrency pioneer who bid nearly $4.6-million dollars to win an online charity auction for a private lunch with billionaire investor Warren Buffett.

The bid by Justin Sun, CEO of BitTorrent and founder of Tron, shattered the previous record of nearly $3.5-million set in 2012 and tied in 2016. It brings him and up to 7 others the chance to dine with Buffett in New York City.

Buffett isn't a fan of investing in cryptocurrencies, calling them nonproductive assets, but Sun said on social media Monday that lunch with the Omaha legend "will be a great opportunity for mutual understanding and knowledge transfer."

The was the 20th year Buffett has held the auction supporting the Glide Foundation, which helps the homeless in San Francisco. He became familiar with Glide when his late first wife Susan volunteered with the group and has continued to support it since her death in 2004.
