(Neb)-Post Playhouse Gearing Up To Open Friday Night  Listen

By: John Axtell Posted at: 05/28/2019 11:59 PM
The Fort Robinson Post Playhouse opens its 2019 season the Friday night with the stage version of the movie musical Mary Poppins.

Those expecting to see a familiar face or two on stage among the primary cast will be disappointed. For the first time in many years, there are no returnees from last season.

Producing director Tom Ossowski says a few of last year's actors expressed an interest in returning, but none were offered contracts because this year's slate of shows requires a different set of theatrical strengths from the case.

Don Fox, the scenic designer again this year and lighting designer for all but one show, says several of last year's cast members were looking to move on anyway because they'd completed 2 years at Fort Robinson and wanted new challenges.

For veteran Post Playhouse audiences, there is one familiar non-local face in this year's cast - actress Em Laudeman, who returns after an absence of 7 years. Laudeman was at the Playhouse from 2009-12 with lead roles in shows that included Oklahoma and The Wizard of Oz.

This summer, she's the female lead in Music Man, Mrs Banks in Mary Poppins, Sister Mary Robert in Sister Act, and Ronnette, one of the Greek Chorus female singers in Little Shop of Horrors. Ironically, she was in the 2012 production of A Year With Frog And Toad, but isn't in this year's.

Mary Poppins opens the season with performances this Friday and Saturday nights, Sunday afternoon, and Tuesday night. Sunday is a near sell-out, opening night has about a third of the house available, while Saturday and Tuesday are both about halfway to sellouts.

Tickets can be purchased online at postplayhouse.com or by phone by calling 308-665-1976 or toll-free 1-888-665-1976. Single-show, 4-show season subscriptions, and 5-show subscriptions are all available.
