(Neb)-WNCC Begins Search Process For New President
SCOTTSBLUFF - The Western Nebraska Community College Board has started the process of finding the school a new president.
Dr Todd Holcomb was selected last month as president of Hawkeye Community College in Iowa, and the WNCC board Thursday officially accepted his resignation, effective June 26. They also hired the search firm ACCT to find both an interim and permanent president.
Board Chair Lynne Klemke says the plan is to hire the interim president quickly, then spend most of the rest of the year on the search for the permanent president with a goal of having the new president on board by January.
Klempke says the timeline may seem like "hurry up and wait," but the board wants to give ACCT adequate time to get a good feel for WNCC so it can better match the school with the candidates.
Board member Dr. Tom Perkins agrees, saying it's imperative to take the time to find the right candidate, one who brings experience and impartial leadership.
WNCC is also losing its #2 administrator as Executive Vice President Dr Kim Kuster Dale has been named president of Western Wyoming Community College.
Dr Holcomb recommended that the board wait until his permanent successor is hired before picking the new vice president, an approach previously implied by several board members, because it would allow the new president to have a say in selecting his cabinet.
