(Neb)-Overman Drawing Rave Reviews In Running Jail
GERING - The Scotts Bluff County Commissioners have officially accepted a letter of resignation dated last Tuesday from county detention center director Joe Gaul, who'd been suspended without pay for reasons never released publicly.
Sheriff Mark Overman was named interim jail director on the 24th of last month, and County Board Chairman Ken Meyer says the commissioners feel the changeover has gone well.
Meyer tells KNEB News it's been a positive move and operations at the jail are going very well, adding that Overman has brought maturity and experience to the job with jail staff very receptive. Meyer also thanks Deputy Troy Brown and jail Program Director Vonnie Cotant for their efforts.
Commissioner Charlie Knapper agrees and says the board has received multiple reports of elevated morale and increased accountability among the jail staff since Overman took charge.
The Scotts Bluff County Detention Center is currently at 86% capacity with 242 detainees, half of whom are from outside jurisdictions that are paying the county to house them.
