(Neb)-Celebrate National Nurses Week
CHADRON - This is National Nurses Week, celebrated annually starting May 6 and ending on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale - considered the founder of modern nursing who established nursing as an honorable and meaningful profession.
According to a Gallup poll conducted in December, registered nurses topped the list of the most honest and ethical professions for the 17th year in a row with more than 4 out of 5 Americans rating the honesty and ethical standards of nurses as "high" or "very high."
Nurses make up the majority of health care professionals and is one of the fastest-growing occupations in the U-S. Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, for example, employs just over 500 nurses and about 100 certified nursing assistants as well as other nursing assistive personnel.
RNs and LPNs are the most visible branches of nursing, but many nurses pursue additional education for specialized careers as nurse anesthetists, case managers, nurse practitioners, midwives, flight nurses, and advanced practiced nurses among others.
