(Neb)-Rushville Voters To Decide July 9 On Pool Bond Issue Listen
RUSHVILLE - Rushville voters will go to the polls July 9th to decide on an $850,000 bond issue to help fund a renovation and expansion of the city swimming pool.
The proposal by Burbach Aquatics, the company that designed the conversion of Chadron's outdoor pool into the indoor Chadron Area Aquatics and Wellness Center, calls for renovating and modernizing the existing facility and building a new outdoor facility.
Mayor Chris Heiser says it's the result of nearly 4 years of work by the SOS - Sink or Swim - Pool Committee, which conducted a survey in 2015 that had a 99% positive response.
Heiser says the SOS Committee has already received one major grant and some smaller funding commitments that would be in addition to the proposed bond issue.
As for the election campaign, Heiser says the city will have no role in it, leaving it to the committee and other backers.
Supporters say that if voters approve the bond and the capital campaign is successful, construction could start next year with the new facility opening in the summer of 2021.
