(Neb)-Retired Judge Robert Hippe Sucumbs To Cancer
GERING - Long-time Panhandle District Judge Robert Hippe has died. Family says the 77-year old Hippe passed away last Saturday at the University of Colorado in Aurora after a short battle with cancer. Services will be held Friday in Gering.
Hippe was in private practice for 8 years and the Scotts Bluff County Attorney for 2 when he was appointed to the district court bench in 1977, a post he held for 30 years before retiring.
Hippe worked throughout his career to help improve the criminal justice system and in 1999 was the first recipient of the state's Distinguished Judge Award for Improvement of the Judiciary.
Retired longtime District Court Clerk Anne Rosenberry told KNEB News that Hippe was passionate for the law, wanting the justice system to work well for everyone, but was also a great man to work with - always kind and courteous with a wry sense of humor.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 1pm at Christ the King Catholic Church in Gering. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials in Bob's honor may be given to Legacy of the Plains Museum. Online condolences may be made at www.bridgmanfuneralhome.com.
