(SD)-Noem Names Circuit Judge To State Supreme Court
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem has appointed circuit judge Patricia DeVaney to serve on the state Supreme Court.
She will be the successor to Justice Steven Zinter, who died in October of complications from routine surgery.
The 50-year old DeVaney was appointed to the Sixth Judicial Circuit in 2012 by then-Gov. Dennis Daugaard after having spent 19 years with the state attorney general's office as an appellate and trial lawyer.
Noem says DeVaney will be a great addition to the state high court with her 25 years of diverse experience in the courtroom and her passion for public service.
DeVaney graduated summa cum laude from the University of South Dakota in 1990 and earned her law degree from the University of Virginia in 1993.
