(Neb)-Chadron School Board Retreat To Focus On Supt Search Listen
CHADRON - The Chadron school board, which had its regular monthly meeting last night, gets together again late this afternoon for its annual board retreat. It begins at 5:00 in the district offices and is open to the public.
Board President Tom Menke says the annual retreat is an important planning tool that helps the board set goals and priories, get new members up to speed, and learn about potential new issues.
The top priority for this year's retreat is the selection process for a new superintendent to succeed Dr Caroline Winchester, who is retiring when her current contract expires in the summer of next year.
The school board has selected the Nebraska Association of School Boards to head the search process and conduct the initial vetting and recommendation of applicants. Menke says the consultant working with the board will be at the workshop.
Menke says the superintendent selection process will include several opportunities for stakeholders, including the general public, to give their input to the school board.
The Chadron board hopes to be able to sign the new superintendent by the end of this year, even though their contract likely wouldn't start until July of next years.
