(SD)-Rapid City Murder Began As Robbery
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Prosecutors say 2 Rapid City teenagers accused of killing a Box Elder teen in Rapid City on Tuesday shot the victim during a planned robbery.
Andre Martinez and Cole Waters, both 19, appeared in court Friday on multiple counts including aiding and abetting 1st-degree murder.
They are accused of killing 17-year-old Emmanuel Hinton of Box Elder during an apparent drug sale. Prosecutors say Martinez planned the robbery, and Waters held Martinez's gun to Hinton's head and shot him.
Both Waters and Martinez have $1 million-dollar, cash-only bonds. An attorney for Martinez called the amount "quite exuberant" and said her client has post-traumatic stress disorder and mental health issues.
