(Neb)-Regular Start Time Friday At Chadron Middle School
CHADRON - It's back to the regular start time Friday for Chadron Middle School, thanks to successful temporary repairs to the school's heating system.
The failure of both boiler pumps, one early Monday and the other early Tuesday forced the cancellation of classes on Wednesday.
A pump from the high school heating system was installed and, together with space heaters, was able to warm classrooms up enough to start at 10:00 Thursday.
Principal Nick Dressel says instead of the usual nightly practice of the thermostats cycling way down after school and back up a couple hours before class, the temperature was being kept fairly even overnight Thursday to eliminate the need for the morning warmup.
Dressel says all classrooms were in the mid-to-upper 60s Thursday, the upper floors warmer than the lower ones.
To aid parents who needed child care for their middle school students until the 10:00 start, the middle school gym - which has a separate heating system - opened at 8:00 with breakfast and supervised activities.
Dressel says there were about 15 students on hand when the doors open and about the same number came in sporadically until 10:00.
