(SD)-No Trace Yet Of 9-Year Old Girl Who Ran Away From Youth Home

By: John Axtell Posted at: 02/04/2019 09:36 PM
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Pennington County Sheriff Kevin Thom says searchers so far have found no trace of a missing 9-year-old girl who ran away from staff at a residential youth home yesterday.

Sheriff Thom says there is no indication Serenity Dennard was abducted, so an Amber Alert has not been issued.

Dennard was last seen leaving the Children's Home Society near Rockerville about 11 a.m. Sunday without a coat. Society executive director Bill Colson says Serenity was playing in the gym inside the facility when she ran away from staff.

The search began Sunday afternoon and Sheriff Thom says 65 people assisted by dogs were searching for Dennard this afternoon with the Civil Air Patrol having joined the search this morning.

Investigators want to talk with a couple who last saw the girl near the children's home while cutting wood and driving a pickup. Deputies want to see if they can give searchers get a better idea of where Serenity was headed.

Serenity Dennard is described as 4-foot-7 and 90 pounds with blue eyes and shoulder-lengthy dirty blonde hair.
