(Neb)-Installation Of New Seats Finished At Chadron High Auditorium
CHADRON - All the new seats have nowl been installed in the Chadron High School auditorium. The school district originally expected the seats to be on hand during or at the end of Christmas break, but their delivery was delayed.
The company couldn't tell school officials when the seat would arrive, so high school principal Jerry Mack says they were surprised when notified they'd be in this past Tuesday.
Demolition and removal of the old seats had been done by a combination of school district crews and volunteers - many of them district employees, too - in 90 minutes before Christmas and Mack says the bulk of the painting was also done by volunteers of a sort - the high school Stagecraft class.
Before the delay in the delivery of the seats, Mack had hoped to have the auditorium back in use this weekend for the Chadron High Speech Tournament. Now it's opening event is scheduled to be the high school musical next month.
The old seats dated back to the school's construction - it opened in 1968 - and were hard plastic, many with a desk arm that rotated up, while the new seats are well padded and have more hip area.
Because of the space taken up by the desk arm, there are now 15 more seats in the auditorium than before.
