(Neb)-Nebraska Confirms 4th Case Of Polio-Like Disease
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services says a fourth case of a rare, polio-like illness has been confirmed in the state. AFM - acute flaccid myelitis - can cause paralysis in the arms and legs and affects mainly children.
The latest case in Nebraska is a child in the northeastern part of the state. No other information about the child has been released because of health privacy laws.
An increase in AFM cases nationwide started in 2014 with 527 confirmed in the U-S from August 2014 through last October. Nebraska's first case was reported last November..
