(SD)-Trial Date Finally Set In 2015 Murder-For-Hire Killing
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - A trial date has finally been set for the man accused of fatally stabbing a Rapid City woman in an alleged murder-for-hire case nearly 4 years ago, but it's not until this fall.
Two weeks, Oct 28-Nov 8, have been set aside in Rapid City for Richard Hirth, who faces murder and other charges in the 2015 stabbing death of 22-year-old Jessica Rehfeld.
Rehfeld's ex-boyfriend, Jonathan Klinetobe, is accused of hiring Hirth and Davide Schneider to kill Rehfeld, who disappeared in May 2015 and whose body was found in a shallow grave in the woods of the Black Hills near Rockerville almost exactly a year later.
Schneider has already pleaded guilty to murder, but won't be sentenced until after the cases of Klinetobe and Hirth are completed. Klinetobe has also pleaded Not Guilty to 1st-degree murder and other charges, but no trial dates have been set for him.
Prosecutors announced last April that they would not seek the death penalty against either man because the Rehfeld family asked them not to.
The family said it would drag out the cases for years, keep the defendants in the news, and prevent the family from getting back some of Rehfeld's belongings that are being held as evidence in the case.
