(Neb)-Alliance Moving Forward On Sunken Gardens Renovations
The city of Alliance is almost done with the first step toward renovating the Sunken Gardens in Central Park: preparation of an RFP - request for proposal - from firms interest in preparing design and construction documents for the project.
The chosen firm will be required to estimate renovation costs, provide materials options, evaluate existing structures, and develop construction documents with city staff overseeing the design and materials selection process.
The work will help determine a precise budget. The project will go to bid once specifications are completed and funds have been secured to complete construction the project
The motivation for the Sunken Gardens renovation, which includes the iconic pillars that define its boundary, came 2 years ago when a former Alliance resident who wished to remain anonymous pledged a $250,000 matching grant.
That led to the formation of the Alliance Pillars for the Park group, which has been active in both fundraising and maintaining community awareness of the project.
Pillars for the Park has been working closely with the Alliance Parks Foundation, which is responsible for tracking and documenting donations, ensuring that all funds given are tracked and earmarked for the project.
Pillars Chairman Tami Cox Swearingen says donations have come from individuals, organizations, and businesses. Several businesses have "sponsored a pillar" as part of the fundraising effort.
Individual and groups can go to the Alliance Pillars for the Park Facebook Page to find ways to donate to the project.
