(Wyo)-Swearing-In Takes Place In Capitol Despite On-Going Renovation

By: John Axtell Posted at: 01/07/2019 11:59 PM
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) -  The swearing-in this morning of Mark Gordon as Wyoming's 33rd governor was one of the more memorable and least-attended because of the time and place.

The first-term Republic took the oath of office along with Wyoming's other 4 statewide elected officials at 6:00 a-m in the rotunda of the state capitol, an unusual setting because the 128-year old building is in its third year of being closed for a $300-million dollar renovation project.

Because of safety restrictions, Gordon was wearing a yellow safety vest and the crowd was limited to a small number of relatives, officials and an Associated Press reporter with the ceremony held under the glare of construction lights.

The more than $300-million dollar project to renovate the Capitol and a nearby office building is nearing completion.
