(Neb)-Another Successful Chadron "Shop With A Cop"
CHADRON - The Chadron Police Department is extending what School Resource Officer Derek Bauer calls a "heartfelt 'Thank You' to the generous citizens, local businesses, and organizations for their support with this year's "Shop with a Cop" program.
Bauer says because of their kindness, "Shop With A Cop" was able to partner with "Toys for Tots" by Wahlstrom Ford to help 239 children in the community experience a much happier holiday than they otherwise might have - adding that Chadron truly is a great community of people willing to help others.
Cash donations of $7,369.62 were combined with non-cash donations that included food, gift cards, and toys made it possible for toys to be delivered to some homes while many children were able to pick out toys while shopping with a Police Officer, State Trooper or Deputy Sheriff.
Bauer says not only were the officers able to purchase things the kids need, they were also able to spend time with the kids "in a positive atmosphere instead of the negative situation youngsters all too often see law enforcement."
The Chadron Police Department also created its own special holiday program this year that they dubbed "Turkeys for Tickets." Officers stopped 11 drivers, but instead of giving them a traffic citation gave them a frozen turkey with encouragement to either use it or pay-it-forward to someone in need.
Donations for Shop With a Cop have continued to come in and Officer Bauer says they're welcomed year-round to help have a solid nest egg heading into the next holiday season.
