(Neb)-UNWNRD Has More Than 160 Entries For Poster Contest
CHADRON - The Upper Niobrara White Natural Resources District says it has 6 local winners in the Annual Nebraska Assocation of Conservation Districts Poster Contest. All the entries from the district were by 3rd and 4th graders.
NRD Conservation Programs Assistant Tricia Goes says this year's theme of Watersheds: Our Water, Our Home drew more than 160 entries from Chadron and Gordon, making the choice of winners difficult because there are "some very talented students" in the NRD.
Taking the top prize among 3rd graders was Raelynn Dolatta with Gracie Calkins 2nd and Addisyn Gruver 3rd while Lillie Uhing took 1st in the 4th grade with Daniel Martins 2nd and Josey Werner 3rd. All are from Chadron,
The posters by Dolatta and Uhing were sent on to the state contest where they were judged along with the other entries submitted from across the state. The winners of the state contest, who were from other NRD's, will go on to the national contest.
Upper Niobrara White conservation programs coordinator Kylen Armstrong says the NRD would love to see more participation from other local schools and age groups across the district, which covers Dawes, Sheridan, Box Butte, and northern Sioux counties.
Armstrong also says any opportunity to educate students about water conservation and protection is very important.
