RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - The Rapid City man accused of firing numerous shots during a four-hour standoff with police on New Year's Day now faces 16 charges. 30-year-old Jordan Wounded Face was arrested on a total of 50 counts.
He was arraigned Thursday on 7 counts each of recklessly firing a gun and firing a gun at an occupied structure or vehicle as well as single counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and inhaling an intoxicant.
Wounded Face appeared in court via video from the Pennington County Jail and had his bail set at $250,000 cash bond
Court documents say his mother called police about 9:00 New Year's Day morning, saying her son was throwing things in his room and she may have heard gunshots.
When an officer arrived at the home half an hour later for a welfare check, Wounded Face fired two shots at him through an open window. That triggered a standoff during which he allegedly fired some 30 times. No officers were hit and none returned fired.
Wounded Face eventually surrendered some 4 hours later after the local police Special Response Team deployed a flash-bang grenade and gas cartridges into the home.
