(SD)-Duhamel Broadcasting Sells Last 5 Stations To Yankton Firm
RAPID CITY, S.D. - Duhamel Broadcasting in Rapid City is selling its remaining holdings, 5 radio stations in the Black Hills including KOTA in Rapid City, to Riverfront Broadcasting LLC of Yankton, SD.
Terms were not released. Riverfront currently owns 14 stations in Iowa and South Dakota including 3 each in Yankton and Pierre.
Duhamel Broadcasting was started 82 years ago by Helen Duhamel, with ownership remaining in the family after her passing in 1991. Her son and current president/general manager Bill Duhamel says most family members no longer live in the Rapid City area and a majority want to sell the stations.
Duhamel says he received multiple offices, but believes in localism and chose Riverfront because it's family-owned by Carol and Doyle Becker. Duhamel says the companies are similar with the main difference being that he's "tired (and) getting too old" while the Beckers are young.
Duhamel Broadcasting for many years also had a television arm with KOTA in Rapid City, KDUH in Scottsbluff, KHSD in Lead-Deadwood, and KSGW in Sheridan, Wyo, but sold them in 2013 to Schurz Communications - which has since sold them again.
