(Wyo)-Community College President Pushes Training Plan
SHERIDAN, Wyo. (AP) - Northern Wyoming Community College District President Paul Young is calling for the state to develop a program to help adults in Wyoming return to college for workforce training.
It's uncertain exactly how receptive state lawmakers would be to the idea of a need-based statewide program.
Young, who is retiring in July, gives the hypothetical example of an electrician wanting to receive additional certification without having to take general college credits such as English and math.
Currently, the community college wouldn't receive funding for that potential student because the classes would be considered non-credit learning.
Young says that makes it likely the college would not accept the electrician because it would lack a financial incentive to do so.
