SCOTTSBLUFF - It didn't take Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff to deliver its first baby of 2019. Charlie Young arrived just 5 hours and 2 minutes into the new year.
The son of Alex Brannan and Zach Young of Mitchell arrived a few days before his due date at 7 pounds, 4 ounces and 20 ¼ inches.
RN Melissa Guerrero, unit charge nurse of the Regional West Birth and Infant Care Center, presented the family with a variety of baby gifts - a Regional West tradition for the first baby born each year at the medical center.
Charlie also received special onesie commemorating his status as the first baby born during Regional West's 95th anniversary year.
The first baby of 2019 at Rapid City Regional Hospital also arrived on New Year's Day, but a little later. Skyler Audrey Wuebben arrived just after noon, like Charlie Young a little sooner than expected. The first child for her parents, Skyler weighed in at exactly 6 pounds and 19 inches long.
Father Nick Wuebben told reporters it was "a surreal day...a joyous occasion that I will always remember," adding that "It was very incredible to see her be born and to have it happen on New Year's day and be the first one in Rapid City
