(Neb)-Future Of Former State Vets Home In Grand Island Still Unclear
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) - What will happen to the buildings and campus of the Grand Island Veterans Home after residents are transferred to the new Central Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney two weeks from tomorrow remains undecided.
Gov. Pete Ricketts announced in 2015 that the state would return the 640-acre site of the old home to the city of Grand Island in two phases.
The first phase included about 590 acres of recreational areas and farmland with phase 2 covering the remaining 50 acres that hold the veterans home, cemetery and club.
Grand Island City Administrator Marlan Ferguson, though, told The Grand Island Independent that the city hasn't signed the dotted line saying it will take the buildings
