(SD)-Widow Of Slain Prison Guard Wants His Uniform From The State
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - The widow of a South Dakota State Penitentiary guard killed 7 years ago during a failed escape by 2 inmates who've since been executed has lost her court battle to get the corrections uniform he was wearing when he died..
Ronald "RJ" Johnson's uniform, shoes, and belt have been kept as evidence since 2011 and Circuit Court Judge Bradley Zell ruled Wednesday that the uniform belongs to the state Dept of Corrections. RJ Johnson's shoes and belt were turned over to his widow Lynette because he had purchased them.
Judge Zell said he was bound by state statute to release the uniform to its rightful owner, which was determined to be the corrections department, but he urged Lynette Johnson to directly ask Corrections Secretary Denny Kaemingk for the uniform.
