(Neb)-Flags At Half Staff For 30 Days For George H.W. Bush
WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) - Flags across the country are flying at half-staff through the 30th in honor of the late former President George H-W Bush, who passed away Friday night at age 94.
Bush, described by many as either the most qualified or most experienced man to ever be elected president, is lying in state in the Capitol Rotunda through Wednesday, followed by a funeral service at Washington National Cathedral.
All 5 members of Nebraska's congressional delegation are Republicans like Bush, the 41st president and father of the 43rd - also George Bush, and all issued statements of sympathy.
Sen. Fischer: "Bruce and I are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of President George H.W. Bush. A member of the Greatest Generation, President Bush humbly served the country he loved. George H.W. Bush was a patriot, a leader, and a decent man who had a noble spirit. Our prayers are with his family."
Sen. Sasse: "President George H.W. Bush served the American people with honor, diligence, and integrity - from his Naval service to the Oval Office. His family knows well the sacrifices required of public service and they have the gratitude of our entire country. Melissa and I now join millions of Americans in holding up all of his children in prayer."
Rep. Smith: "I'm deeply saddened by the loss of our 41st President, George H. W. Bush. Navy pilot, congressman, ambassador, CIA director, vice president, and president, he was a true public servant and a great man who brought out the best in people. Our prayers are with the Bush family."
Rep. Fortenberry: "President Geroge H.W. Bush showed us the virtues of honor in office, dignity and formality. Hearing of his death, I reflected on the story of his dramatic rescue at sea after being shot down over the Pacific during WWII. His passing reminds us again of the Greatest Generation's dedication to our country's noblest ideals."
Rep. Bacon: "My thoughts & prayers go to the Bush family upon the passing of George H. W. Bush. He was a stalwart husband, father, CIA Director, & Ambassador. I especially have reverence for his service as a veteran, American hero, WW2 warrior, & president. He will be missed. Godspeed. "
