(Wyo)-Korean War Remains Those Of Wyo Soldier

By: John Axtell Posted at: 11/28/2018 10:51 PM
WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) - The Pentagon says the remains of a Korean War soldier recovered in North Korea have been identified as those of a Wyoming man.
19-year-old Army Cpl. DeMaret Kirtley of Kaycee was reported missing in December 1950 after his unit withdrew from an area east of the Chosin Reservoir. Kirtley was never reported as being a prisoner of war, and so was declared dead in late 1953.
Remains in burial grounds near the Chosin Reservoir were exhumed for testing last year and Dept of Defense scientists used dental, DNA and other analysis and evidence to confirm in May that some of the remains were those of Kirtley. It's unclear what will happen next with Kirtley's remains.
