(SD)-SD, Wyo Govs-Elect Fill Top Staff Jobs
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - The governors-elect of Wyoming and South Dakota have named their top staffers, including chief of staff.
South Dakota's Kristi Noem chose Herb Jones, her deputy campaign manager, as chief of staff. Jones has experience in several governors' administrations and was chief of staff to Senator John Thune more than a decade ago when Thune was a congressman.
Noem also named her former U.S. House communications director, Joshua Shields, as chief of communications and current Bureau of Finance and Management Commissioner Liza Clark to be chief of finance.
Noem says they will have an "immediate impact" as her administration starts moving on its agenda to grow the economy, maintain low taxes, and improve government transparency.
In Wyoming, Governor-elect Mark Gordon has named deputy state treasurer Pat Arp as chief of state. Arp was deputy secretary of state for 20 years before moving to the treasurer's staff in 2015.
Gordon also picked Bridget Hill, head of the Wyoming Office of State Lands and Investments since 2013, as attorney general to replace Peter Michael. Hill has also acted as an attorney for a number of state agencies over the years.
