LINCOLN, Neb. - Law enforcement agencies across Nebraska were busy over the weekend with weather-related calls. The State Patrol alone responded to over 100 weather-related yesterday, including 20 crashes.
Most were on the eastern side of the state, including an accident on I-80 near Waverly that saw a jack-knifed semi hit by another semi. That crash and several others closed down the freeway westbound for more than 2 hours.
There have been no weather-related fatalities reported so far, but a one-vehicle rollover on Highway 71 north of Kimball about 2:30 yesterday afternoon hospitalized the driver.
Nebraska State Patrol spokesman Cody Thomas says the accident took plac. when an older model SUV drove off the road northbound and rolled through the snow-packed median and southbound lanes before coming to rest on its wheels.
Thomas says the driver, whose name has not been released, was flown by the AirLink helicopter ambulance to the hospital while 3 juvenile passengers were taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment or observation.
