(Neb)-Bighorn Sheep Tours Upcoming At Fort Robinson And Wildcat Hills Listen
ALLIANCE - Nebraska Game and Parks is offering two free hikes this weekend to see bighorn sheep.
One is Friday morning at 9:00 at Fort Robinson State Park and the other is Saturday at 9:00 at the Wildcat Hills Nature Center south of Gering. A Nebraska park entry permit is required for each..
Game and Parks big-game research and disease program manager Todd Nordeen says the agency has been offering similar tours for the past few years.
While the tours will be headed into the areas with the heaviest concentrations of the state's bighorn sheep, Nordeen says there's no guarantee the hikers will see any.
Some of the Game and Parks wildlife technicians who use telemetry to monitor the animals will help lead the tours.
The Fort Robinson group will leave from the shelter at the entrance of the Soldier Creek campground while the Wildcat Hills excursion will start at the Nature Center. Participants are asked to prepare for up to 3 miles of hiking with appropriate footwear, sunscreen and water.
