(Wyo)-UPDATE - Casper Shootout Leaves Suspect Dead, Officer Critical
UPDATE - CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - Casper police have released the identity of the man killed Sunday afternoon in a shootout with police that left one officer in critical condition.
Two officers had responded to call of a vehicle, but as they approach the car in a vacant dirt lot on the east side of Casper, 38-year-old David Wolosin of Casper began firing. The officers then returned fire and Wolosin was fatally wounded.
One officer, whose name has not been released, was wounded with the Casper Star-Tribune reporting he was struck five times in the back and received multiple blood transfusions at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.
Witnesses say Wolosin appeared to be driving two children around the lot before the two officers arrived. The children weren't hurt.
CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - Casper police say a shootout a little before 2:00 Sunday afternoon in the east part of the city left one man dead and a police officer critically injured.
Names have not been released, but a statement from the police department this morning says the incident began with a call about a vehicle complaint at 1:36 pm.
Two officers reponded and made contact with a man who drew a gun and began shooting. They returned fire and he was killed. One of the officers was hit multiple times and is at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper with life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses told local media that there were two children in the man's car during the shooting, which occurred outside the car in a vacant dirt lot, but the police statement didn't mention children being present.
