SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (AP) - The two newest additions to the Riverside Discovery Center zoo in Scottsbluff - a pair of bison calves - made their public debut Saturday. The calves were part of a herd at the Kansas City Zoo.

Discovery Center zoo director Anthony Mason says adding animals has been his priority since taking the job 15 months ago, with bison one of the target areas since they had just one - an adult male named Doc.

Mason says bison are herd animals, so adding the female calves should improve Doc's overall wellbeing.

The newcomers were in a separate but adjacent enclosure from Doc until yesterday and Mason says Doc had been "watching them and trying to sniff them and talk to them from through the fence."
