(ND)-ND Can't Ban Dakota Access Security Firm
BISMARK, N.D. (AP) - A North Dakota judge has ruled the state can't ban the North Carolina-based private security firm TigerSwan from the state because it isn't licensed there. TigerSwan was hired by Energy Transfer Partners to handle security for the Dakota Access oil pipeline
The state Private Investigative and Security Board sued TigerSwan last June, alleging the company operated illegally in North Dakota during protests against the pipeline.
While Judge John Grinsteiner rejected the board's request to ban the company, he hasn't ruled yet on whether TigerSwan did operate illegally and could be subject to fines.
Company attorney Lynn Boughey has asked the judge to dismiss the rest of the case and says he thinks any fines should be handled administratively and not through the courts.
