(SD)-Ellsworth AFB In Running To Be First To Get New Generation Bomber
Box Elder, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota's U-S senator say Rapid City's Ellsworth Air Force Base is one of 3 being considered to be the first to receive the next-generation bomber, the B-21.
Also under consideration are Dyess AFB in Texas and Whiteman AFB in Missouri. A decision is expected in 2019.
Senator Mike Rounds, a Senate Armed Services Committee member, says making the finalist list reaffirms the "vital role Ellsworth plays in our national defense" while Senator John Thune, third in the GOP leadership, says it confirms the Air Force intends to at least eventually base B-21s at Ellsworth.
