(Neb)-Election Forum Tonight At CSC

By: John Axtell Posted at: 04/11/2018 04:07 PM
CHADRON - Nebraska's May 15th primary election is still a month away, but the KCSR/KBPY/Chadron Record Election Forum is tonight at 6:30 in the Chadron State College Student Center Scottsbluff Room. One big change from last time is that there's streaming on public access cable tv.

There are only 3 contested races in Dawes County next month - Crawford City Council South Ward, Republican Party Dawes County Commissioner District 2, and Republican Party County Treasurer - and each has 3 candidates.

For the two county government races, only the winner goes on to the November ballot while the top 2 in the Crawford council race advance.

The council race is up first at 6:30 and incumbent Roy Norgard and challenger Susan Leeling have confirmed that they will participate. It's unclear if Ronnie Thompson will.

That's followed at 7:15 by the County Treasurer's race, which has no incumbent. Two of those 3 candidates have also committed to the forum - Rhonda Schleuning and Jennifer Dean. The third, Sam Wellnitz, is out of state for a wedding and will submit a statement to be read by the moderators

The final race of the evening at 8:00 is County Commissioner District 2 and all 3 candidates have confirmed they'll take part - Kevin Lotton, incumbent Vic Rivera, and former commissioner Stacy Swinney

Each of the sessions will follow the same format with candidate giving a 60-second opening statement and a 90-second closing statement. The rest of the time spent answering questions from the moderators from the radio stations and the newspaper.

Members of the audience can submit written questions to the moderators at the forum, and questions can be submitted in advance by email to kerri.rempp@lee.net or kcsr@chadrad.com or by calling the Record at 432-5511 or KCSR/KBPY at 432-5545.
