(Neb)-Wind Rekindles Slash Pile, Burns 5-Acres Listen
CHADRON - Members of the Chadron Volunteer Fire Department had to delay the start of their regular meeting Tuesday night to handle a more urgent piece of business - a 5-acre wildfire east of the city. Fire Chief Jack Rhembrandt says it was caused by the wind rekindling a burned slash pile.
Chief Rhembrandt says 3 Type-6 brush units and 2 tankers responded from Chadron Rural with a similar U-S Forest Service engine rolling as well, putting 22 firefighters on the scene.
Crawford firefighters were also on guard at roughly the same time the Chadron department was in action, but for Crawford it was just to keep an eye on a couple control burns...one to the south and one in the area of the city park.
