(Neb)-Citywide Power Outage Hits Alliance
ALLIANCE - Nearly all, if not all, of the city of Alliance has been in a city-wide power outage starting about 8:15 last night.
City Manager Rick Kuckkahn issued a statement says the outage occurred when the main feeder lines from WAPA - the Western Area Power Administration - to the Alliance Substation came loose, causing a WAPA jumper at the 10th Stree Substation to fail..
WAPA uses only its own crews for repairs and its closest was in the Scottsbluff area at the time of the outage. Kuckkahn said at 10:15 that the WAPA crew had still not arrived, but that city's 3rd Street generators had been activated and were providing power to a small portion of town.
Kuckkahn and Alliance Fire Chief Troy Shoemaker declined to guess when repairs will be completed and service restored to the entire city, saying only that it "could be a good amount of time."
