(Neb)-Police Chase Near Scottsbluff Ends With Fatal Crash
GERING - Scotts Bluff County Sheriff Mark Overman says details likely won't be available until later today from a fatal one-vehicle crash last night during a police chase that began in Mitchell and ended on the west side of Scottsbluff.
Authorities have released no names and haven't said if the driver of the fleeing vehicle was alone or had passengers.
Overman says authorities received a call about 9:50 last night about a pickup driving the wrong way on Highway 26. The driver stopped at a Mitchell convenience store, then took off on the highway toward Scottsbluff as Mitchell police arrived, after a short time back in the westbound lanes.
The pickup turned southbound on to Avenue I in Scottsbluff, then crashed into a tree shortly after 10:00. Authorities remained on the scene for more than 7 hours. Names have not yet been released.
Taking part in the incident were the Mitchell and Scottsbluff Police Departments, Nebraska State Patrol, Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Department, Scottsbluff Fire Department, and Valley Ambulance.
