(Neb)-Another Defendant Sentenced In Pine Ridge Res Murder
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - A man convicted in June of instigating the deadly beating of another man on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in July 2015 was sentenced Tuesday to 17 -1/2 years in federal prison.
26-year-old Calmer Cottier had been found guilty of aiding and abetting second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit assault in the killing of 30-year-old Ferris Brings Plenty. Cottier is one of 7 men charged in the and 1 of 5 to have pleaded guilty - 3 of them for murder.
Authorities say Brings Plenty was beaten with a machete, a stick, a bat and a cinder block while he was visiting his mother, while prosecutors say the killing stemmed from gang rivalries on the reservation.
