(Neb)-Chadron Recycle Bowl Winding Down Listen
CHADRON - RECYCLE BOWL......NOV 8
This is the final week of the Chadron Recycle Bowl Competition, part of a national event encouraging schools and students to bring in recyclable materials.
The local effort, organized by Keep Chadron Beautiful, concludes with the Recycle Round Up this Saturday and Sunday at the Farmers State Bank parking lot
Keep Chadron Beautiful executive director Susan Hucke says the Recycle Bowl has quickly become a popular fall event for students and the public.
KCB education and information director Jackie Dailey says after the first 2 weeks of competition, Chadron Middle School leads with 1,822 pounds of recyclables, followed by Chadron Primary with 1,621 and Chadron Intermediate 1,042.
Proceeds from the sale of the aluminum cans collected during the Recycle Bowl will be used to purchase new basketball for the winning school. Dailey says the balls will be delivered during recess by the Chadron State College men's team, which helped kickoff the competition.
In the past, the Recycle Round Up had bins marked for each school that community members could use to add to the school total, but Dailey says this year there will be a trailer for community recyclables in a challenge to see who's more dedicated to recycling - kids or adults.
The Recycle Bowl and Recycle Round Up both lead into America Recycles Day next Wednesday, November 15th.
