The group met at the Rowe Sanctuary in Gibbon. Two of the 28 advisory council members are from Chadron High School - Mark Taylor and Hunter Hawk. Also from the Panhandle or near edge of the Sandhills are Kitra Cody of Cody-Kilgore, Sarah-Kate Splichal of Sidney, and Nathan Sanchez of Scottsbluff High. Smith’s Youth Advisory Council is a forum for high school juniors and seniors to discuss opinions, thoughts and concerns about local and federal issues with Smith throughout the school year....sometimes in person and sometimes by phone or videoconference. The congressman says it gives the students an opportunity for involvement as well as insight into their communities and how their government works.
