(Neb)-Two Repeat Winners In Chadron Kiwanis Stars Of Tomorrow
CHADRON - There were two repeat winners yesterday at the Chadron Kiwanis Club’s Stars of Tomorrow talent show. There were a dozen competitors in 3 age-group divisions with no entries this year Division II, covering 3rd and 4th graders.
One repeat winner was in the senior or Division IV as Chadron High School junior Jashwa Alan Cumming won with his animated and emotional recital of poetry.
As the Division IV winner, Cumming receives a $150 scholarship and the right to advance to the Rocky Mountain District Stars of Tomorrow show on Sunday, May 17 in Loveland, Colo.
Also claiming victory for the second straight year was Chadron 8th grader Josh Fernau in Division III. He offered a vocal and guitar solo on “Cinderella.”
The other champion was Hay Springs 2nd-grader Reese Varvel, who topped Division I with her vocal solo, "I Am a Promise."
The runner-up in Division IV was Benjamin Regier of Chadron, a home-schooled 11th grader who played the piano solo “Crazy Bone Rag,” while 3rd place was Chadron High junior and magician Jared Fernau, who explained how his tricks worked.
Brayla Miller of Chadron, a home-schooled 7th grader, placed 2nd in Division III with her vocal solo, “Hallelujah” with Hay Springs 8th grader Joce Varvel taking 3rd with a piano solo “Wild Appaloosa”.
Division 1 runner-up honors went to Hay Springs 2nd-grader Bristol Prado, who sang “Automatic,” while Chadron 2nd-grader Tristan Herbert placed 3rd with a piano solo “Nothing Else Matters.”
