(Neb)-Sale Of KDUH-TV Parent Complete
SCOTTSBLUFF - The FCC has approved the purchase of Schurz Communications, the parent company of KDUH and KOTA-TV, by Grays TV...a deal that will have a major impact on Panhandle viewers.
Gray is selling KOTA's license and its MeTV and ThisTV affiliations to Legacy Broadcasting and switching KDUH from a satellite of the Rapid City station to a satellite of its KNOP-TV in North Platte.
With the switch, the KDUH network affiliation switches from ABC to NBC and instead of its primary news feed coming from Rapid City, it will come from North Platte.
Gray says the change will give KDUH viewers greater access to Nebraska news because it also owns stations in the eastern half of the state.
Gray is petitioning the FCC to change the community of license for KDUH from Scottsbluff to Sidney, although the studios and transmitter would remain in Scottsbluff.
The change is being sought because Gray also owns KSTF-TV in Scottsbluff, a CBS affiliate that's a satellite of a Cheyenne station, and FCC rules don't allow single ownership of two full-power stations in the same city.
The federal agency has waived the so-called duopoly rule while the community of license change is pending. A 30-day public comment period on the duopoly issue began last Monday.
