(Wyo.)-State Extended Unemployment Checks Will Be Cut
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (ASSOCIATED PRESS) - Extended unemployment payments in Wyoming will be reduced starting later this month because of federal budget cuts.
People who have exhausted their regular 26 weeks of state unemployment benefits are eligible for 14 weeks of emergency payments. Anyone who starts collecting those emergency payments on or after May 26 will receive smaller payments.
The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services says payments will be reduced by 23.1 percent in order to reduce its total spending by 10.7 percent for the fiscal year.
Unemployment payments are based on past wages. Department spokeswoman Hayley McKee said the average emergency payment would drop from $330 to $254 because of the cuts.
People collecting regular unemployment payments and people already receiving emergency payments by May 26 won't be affected.
