(S.D.)-Police Train To Defend Schools In Lead

By: Chris Fankhauser Posted at: 02/18/2013 08:02 AM

LEAD, S.D. (AP) - A high school in western South Dakota has started working with law enforcement to better prepare officers in the event of a campus shooting.
Lead-Deadwood High School became training ground for more than 25 law-enforcement officers earlier this month.
Deadwood Police Chief Kelly Fuller says that the December school massacre in Newtown, Conn., helped spark the training session.
Lawrence County Detective Tavis Little says the goal was to increase cooperation between multiple agencies.
The training included representatives from the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office, Deadwood Police Department, Lead Police Department, federal Forest Service and South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks.
